Big Brother Is Watching You

Honestly, I intended this blog to be more than just a series of links to various articles. However, my personal life has been rather busy right now leaving me with precious little free time and I have chosen to spend that free time to do things other than keeping my blog up to date. This, combined with the rate at which new revalations are being made about how corrupt "our" government has become has basically led to a series of quick entries pointing to articles that have particularly disturbed me.

In that vein, yet another example has been discovered of the wanton disregard for the Bill of Rights this administration has. It's ironic and sad that this report comes out in the very week that the criminals in the White House are trying to push through the extention of the PATRIOT Act.

The government of the United States is now monitoring Americans without court orders and without probable cause. Many of us have known this for a long time, but the major news sources didn't make much of an issue of it (surprise, surprise). The PATRIOT Act has already been used to spy on and document the ACLU, Greenpeace, and other peaceful organizations. Unfortunately it didn't seem like anyone took much notice when this report came out, but hopefully this one will get a little more attention.

I honestly can't understand why people that call themselves conservatives like this asshole. Conservatives are the ones that claim to love the country more than liberals. They wrap themselves in the flag (maybe this is why they try to pass Constitutional ammendments trying to ban the burning of it) and say that they want "strict interpretation of the Constitution". Well, if you want a strict interpretation I think the fourth amendment is pretty fucking clear: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

What interpretation allows the government the right to spy it it's own citizens solely at the whim of some government official without cause, without warrant, and without any documented legal process? I don't see any exceptions for terrorists, drug dealers, or even (gasp!) homosexual activity.
